Nový COIL kurz ve spolupráci s University of Sussex

V podzimním semestru 2021 poprvé vypisujeme kurz realizovaný ve spolupráci s University of Sussex, School of Media, Arts and Humanities. Najdete ho pod kódem OVp128. Budeme se v něm věnovat politikám vzpomínání a jejich souvislostem. Na co a jak ve veřejném prostoru vzpomínáme a co naopak zůstává zapomenuto?

Lektorkou za KOV bude Dr. Barbora Vacková, za Sussex Dr. Monika Metyková. Podrobné informace budou postupně zveřejňovány v ISu a na webu katedry.

Kurz bude probíhat formou výukových bloků v předem domluvených termínech: 2x blok přednášek (lektorky a externí přednášející) a 2x blok studentských prezentací. Předpokladem je aktivní spolupráce s kolegy z GB v druhé polovině semestru.

Kurz je vypisován v magisterském programu, ale mohou se přihlásit i zájemci z programu bakalářského (požádejte si o výjimku). Počet studentů v kurzu je omezen.

Annotation: Public displays of remembrance are not neutral representations of past events or past actions. They form a crucial part of identities - individual, national and global - and are constructed and re-constructed all the time. This course shines a light on the politics of representation behind these public displays and acts of remembrance. What gets remembered and in what ways? Whose memories are left out? What events are erased from memory? What discourses do remembering and forgetting feed in particular? These are some questions that students on the course will consider. We will use examples of practices and acts of commemoration (or their lack) to get a deeper understanding of identities in contemporary Europe. Students on the course will explore the politics of representation in relation to national discourses of commemoration and also in relation to pan-European phenomena of population displacement (including migration). Students will get an understanding of theoretical insights into these issues and will be able to analyze practices and acts of commemoration in light of these. They will use this knowledge to prepare a final public facing non-academic group project (photography, video, podcast, teaching materials, blog etc.) that addresses a gap in public displays of remembrance or offers an alternative to the dominant discourse.
